We then head north, thru’ the heritage town of Kells, the Lakelands of Cavan and across the River Shannon to our lovely castle hotel – home for the next two nights. (B, D)
Day 3 Sligo & Lough Erne (Thursday)
Looming over Sligo like a beached ocean liner is the limestone ridge known as Benbulben in an area which the poet W.B. Yeats called ‘the land of heart’s desire. We visit the poet’s grave in Drumcliffe before travelling along the shores of Lower Lough Erne from Belleek to Enniskillen. We visit the famous porcelain factory and learn all about stalagmites and stalactites as you explore the Marble Arch Caves, one of Europe’s finest showcaves. (B, D)
Day 4 Wesport & Connemara (Friday)
We travel further west this morning to Westport on Clew Bay in the shadow of Croagh Patrick, Ireland’s Holy Mountain, with a stop enroute at the Foxford Woollen Mills established in 1892 to try and stem the tide of emigration from the town. From Westport we continue to Leenane on Killary Harbour, on over the Maamturk Mountains in Connemara to Maam Cross and through Oughterard to Galway City, stopping to shop for some Connemara Marble. (B, D)
Day 5 The Burren & Cliffs of Moher (Saturday)
Enjoy a drive this morning along the southern shores of Galway Bay before traversing the Burren region of Clare with its remarkable flora and geological curiosities. (B, D)
Day 6 Ring of Kerry (Sunday)
A leisurely tour around the Iveragh Peninsula reputed to be the most scenic 100-mile drive in Europe. Travel via Killorglin, Cahirciveen, Waterville on Ballinskelligs Bay and the quaint village of Sneem with its brightly painted cottages. On through Moll’s Gap and along by Ladies View that provides some spectacular vistas of the famous Lakes of Killarney. Walk the shores of Muckross Lake in Killarney National Park from where you may wish to take a jaunting car ride, through the park, back to Killarney. (B, D)

Leaving Killarney for Waterford we travel over the Kerry Mountains to Blarney to shop for handcrafts and a chance to kiss the famous ‘stone of eloquence’ (optional). (B)
Day 8Kilkenny & Tipperary (Tuesday)
Set on the banks of the river Nore, Kilkenny is undoubtedly Ireland’s loveliest inland city. It is justly proud of both its castle and cathedral and contains an absolute treasury of well-preserved medieval buildings. Not so far away is Tipperary in the lush pasturelands of the Golden Vale. Rising dramatically out of the Tipperary plain is the Rock of Cashel, a symbol of royal and priestly power for more than a millennium. A good proportion of the complex is still standing and Cormac’s Chapel is one of the most outstanding examples of Romanesque architecture in the country.(B)
Day 9Kildare & Dublin (Wednesday)
This morning we travel direct to Dublin thru’ Carlow and the Curragh of Kildare, the heart of Ireland’s famous bloodstock and racing industry, arriving in the ‘Fair City’ around midday.
